Because they're generating the money for the team.

So when the actors are generating the money for the show and the networks are selling all of this stuff on top of it, they should get paid.
But nowadays, nobody wants to pay anything.
So the only way to win is make it independently, put your money behind it, and then make them beg for it, and then overcharge them.
