Yeah, I think from the Iranian point of view, what they would say, this is what the regime would say, is that we really don't respect your views on international law.
The US and Israel launched an illegal war of aggression against us.
They killed 168 children on the first day and you guys said nothing.
You didn't put any sanctions.
This pattern of ignoring violations against Iran and the Iranians goes back decades.
So why should we abide by international law when the rest of the world doesn't respect it when it comes to Iran?
This is what they would argue at this point.
But your previous speaker is absolutely correct.
There's this concept in maritime law, innocent passage.
Okay, perhaps Iran could argue that if it's an Israeli or U.S.
warship, they should not be allowed to just freely pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
But for some ship heading to the Philippines with a supply of natural gas, that falls very much under the definition of innocent passage, and it should be allowed under international norms.
They were not the ones who attacked Iran, and they shouldn't suffer the consequences for that.
