They got a hearing date and they showed up for their hearing only to find all of that

had been made irrelevant by Donald Trump, who is ripping away their due process rights.

And it's even like Orwellian, they call it dismissing your case, which you think sounds good.

They're like dismissing your deportation proceeding, only to discover that means they've stripped you of status and can remove you at the elevator lobby after you walk out of the courtroom.

It is a Gestapo tactic.

And then at the same time, they arrest Senator Alex Padilla.

They arrest a staffer of Congressman Jerry Nadler.

They arrest Mayor Ras Baraka.

And they arrest me.

And it is a scary moment, most of all for folks like Edgardo, for families that might be separated or stripped away, but also just for the rule of law and for constitutional democracy.

We have to find a way to show up insistently, nonviolently, but very clearly.

And I was proud to be out there this weekend, you know, amongst those millions of New Yorkers and Americans.

And I'm going to keep showing up in immigration hearings and everywhere else I can.

Yeah, so I had done this a few times already.

This was actually the third week I had showed up in immigration court with a group called Immigrant Arc who operate a friend of the court program that anyone can join.

So I urge other people to volunteer.

You observe what happens in the courtroom.

And then if people are stripped of status, just escort them out of the building.

And I had done that five times before.

where I was able just to, you know, join arms with somebody, walk them to the elevator, get them out of the building and on their way back to their family.
