There's just little things that you can implement that will make a massive difference so that you don't have to scramble to try to get your body ready if all of a sudden you find out that you're doing a really hard hike in three weeks, okay? matched

So, are trucking poles helpful? matched

They're helpful, but they're not going to magically take away all of that stress on the joints. matched

Okay, so the benefits of trekking poles that they can help improve balance, reduce the perceived effort, right? matched

You feel like, oh my gosh, I have a little bit of assistance. matched

So it's almost like a mental thing. matched

They do redistribute some of the load and they can also increase confidence on steep or uneven trails. matched

Here's an important caveat though. matched

Poles are not a substitute for strength. matched

You cannot rely on them fully or put all of your body weight into your poles. matched

So think of them as a helpful tool, but not an insurance policy. matched

So the strongest protection is still gonna come from having a body that's prepared to absorb the force of the downhill movement. matched
