To put this another way, to really reduce this to basics, every morning on this planet, Ray, eight billion people wake up and we fundamentally want one thing.
We want human connection.
And that will remain the case.
When AI, as everyone fears it will, blurs the boundary between real and unreal in ways that we struggle to distinguish, we will work day and night to distinguish.
We will still reach for real human contact.
That is what we want.
No matter what technology comes, we will find a way to connect with other real, actual humans.
Technology will get in the way of that a little bit.
It will make it more complicated and make it more difficult.
But it won't stop that desire.
And we will not stop looking for genuine human connection until we get it.
And that's what we look for every single day.
Being part of a group
is very mentally healthy for us, probably because it recognises the boundary between self and non-self as being very porous.
OK, so we spoke earlier about individuals and your idea of this defined individual with a start and an end.
But we also spoke earlier about how connected we are.
And in a sense, we merge into other people quite a lot, particularly when we're interacting closely.
So that merging into a group is very mentally healthy.
It's very good.
And people do it.
