There might be people who disagree with that, which I respect.
But if I ask the question, tell me the number of CEOs who've been successful in AFL clubs who come from outside the industry and straight into that role, I would say you could maybe give me three or four at the most.
Over the last 30 or 40 years.
So that sort of highlights the point I'm trying to make, is that you probably do need to have an understanding of footy.
And what does that mean?
It means you need to understand the culture of a football department.
You need to understand how football people relate to each other from a professional point of view.
And in what pattern do they relate?
meet each other during the week.
What happens on Monday?
What happens on Tuesday?
What happens on Wednesday and Thursday?
And why we have that sequence.
Well, you know, there's so many things that you have to be there to understand it.
You have to be part of it.
