Outside of that, of course, you know, you have coffees, you do mentoring.
I'm mentoring a couple of CEOs right now.
And I see my role as developing them.
And once upon a time, the CEO sort of had a really strong position
set of skills, maybe around one topic or two.
And it might have been IT, or it might have been HR, or it might have been football.
And so they develop all marketing.
And it's gone through sort of eras.
But now I think, if you ask me what's the better type of CEO coming through, it's the ones who are the advanced general managers.
They know a little or a lot about each of the areas, particularly football.
I think they need to know footy and have some footy experience, but they don't have to be an expert in any particular one.
They have to be able to manage teams, not necessarily manage individuals, which they have to do as well, but the team aspect becomes really important.
And I've said for a little while now, and it took me a little while to learn this myself, but you don't have to be the best leader as a CEO.
You don't have to be the best leader in the room.
It's more important to lead the best teams.
because footy is about teams.
Everything's about teams.
The board is a team, the executive are a team.
You go to footy, you've got backline, midfield, you've got ruck coaches.
So they're all sort of teams, okay?
