We communicated with the top of the bureau, but we also communicated responsibly to the entire workforce what was going on to be truly transparent and also be vulnerable.

I mean, before that, I had a lot of friends around the FBI.

And as a member of the hostage rescue team, you're the perpetual away team.

So you're deploying all over the country and the world.

So you meet a lot of people.

So a lot of people knew me and I'm fortunate for that.

But they knew who I was.

They knew I was a member of the rank and file who ended up in this position.

And so I enjoyed a level of trust because I was fortunate to come up through the ranks from the rank and file.

And then through our actions, when we were thrust into that situation and articulating in those moments that I was choosing the wrench with full knowledge of the consequences, you know, the consequences are articulated to me in that room as well, that you know what's going to happen if you go through with this and show resistance and such.

And I was like, yeah, and I'm ready for it.

And then I told the wrench story.

And it was, this sounds cheesy, but it was a beautiful moment to me because where I thought potentially I would see some people push away from the table, everybody tucked in.

And I knew that side eye, like, how did you get here?

Like, who do you know?

Or did you do this?

Were you involved?

I knew all of those potential concerns were gone because I was...

one of a very few in that room that were not eligible to retire and they knew what i'd be sacrificing myself and so many others yeah that i've been so fortunate to to participate in such high-risk missions and using sophisticated techniques on all kinds of awesome investigations like really cool stuff um some of which we can never talk about

And I remember our team, we're not getting shot at.
