And how much experience is in that room retiring?
I mean, some of them had close to 30 years.
Some of them had 20 something years to be retirement eligible as an agent in the FBI.
You have to have 20 years of service and be at least 50 years old.
I don't want to speak for them, but none of them told me they were intending to leave during this time.
They were forced out.
And the FBI at headquarters in the Hoover building, we refer to it as the seventh floor.
So there is a secure compartmentalized information facility or a SCIF on the seventh floor where all of those executives sit and the director's office as well, deputy's director's office.
Got real quiet after that.
So on the night they retired, we all gathered in the director's conference room and then we moved into the inner sanctum and we just shared some time.
We laughed, we had some emotional moments and then they all walked out together and it was crushing because it gets pretty lonely real quick.
It's already lonely when you're at the top of an organization and necessarily so sometimes.
And it took me a while to appreciate that.
But that pressure that comes with that loneliness is a privilege because a lot is expected of you.
Not everybody has the blessing to be in a pressurized environment where you have people count on you.
But after they left, that was really hard.
And people were nervous to be elevated into those positions because now they could potentially be a mark.
It was a tough time.
But in those moments where throughout all of that,
We call it turmoil.
