We expect that to continue into the future.
The opportunity we have is to use biosimilars, generics, and the power of competition to drive costs down.
So 90% of all prescriptions in America are generics.
You go back to the turn of the century 25 years ago, that number was about 45%.
We've been able to use the power of competition as an industry and at the Cigna Group to drive down the cost of prescription drugs, specifically through generics and biosimilars, and we see tremendous opportunity for that in the future.
And a great example was just last year, Humira biosimilars were available for the first time.
So Humira, a very expensive brand drug for inflammatory conditions.
We were able to introduce a $0 patient out of pocket for Humira biosimilars compared to the $7,000 per month list price of Humira.
It's already saved $200 million for our customer base just in the year or two years that it's been in place.
That's a great example of where we see the system continuing to evolve and change for the benefit of patients and society.
A second example is specific to the consumer.
So consumers, not only in healthcare, but across all industries, have growing expectations.
Their expectations continue to increase with technology and with their experiences in other facets of their life.
And the healthcare industry has a long way to go in that regard.
So we see a future where technology, advanced analytics, and AI will lead to a more personalized healthcare experience for individuals.
Affordability and access are problems one and two with every interaction I have with an employer or a health plan or an individual patient.
For us, it all starts with the right sub-segmentation and making sure that our solutions are appropriate, again, not for the averages, but for the individual's needs.
So that can take the form of using virtual care for some people who want to engage in that modality.
Some people prefer to have care in their homes.
Others prefer to see a doctor face-to-face because that's what they're accustomed to.
