And some of that's been done relatively openly, and there's also attempts to buy arms on the continent and elsewhere now.

Where it gets messy, of course, is that everybody's getting the money.

So people who remain loyal to what becomes the official IRA get some of this money and they use it to buy arms.

And people who become the regionals get some of this money and they use it to buy arms.

And people who aren't identified with anybody seem to get some money as well, and and we don't really know what happens to it.

And

Ultimately that does become public by the spring of nineteen seventy.

There's questions in the doll about what is happening to this money.

There's all kinds of allegations that, you know

the Irish Defence Forces were going to end up providing old equipment to defence committees and so on.

So this, you know, is a genuine crisis for the government, and they respond by sacking ministers.

There's court cases which ultimately collapse.

And Charles Hahey and and Neil Blaney come out of that as

Essentially the representatives of

an unrepentant strand of of antipartitionism of people who who did want to help northern nationalists and for people who don't like them as people who are giving money to the, you know, what is by nineteen seventy two the provisional IRA, which is waging this, you know, unprecedented war uh against the British.

And and

Those you know, in in nineteen seventy two there's a book called On Our Knees, written by a woman called Rosetta Sweetman, who's a supporter of the officials, and that book really puts a lot of these theories out in the open.

She interviews Charles High in this book, who by this stage is is still a fiend fall T D but has been, you know, kind of sidelined.

And she more or less says that Charles How he set up the provisional IRA because he wanted to, you know, firstly

prevent a left wing threat from from upsetting the capitalist setup in the south, but also then because he represents this strand of of nationalism that believes the time is right for a United Ireland.
