We actually kept inflation uncomfortably high for most of the 80s.
So we sort of delayed the medicine, if you like, by over a decade.
And when we finally decided to do something about inflation, the cost was the early 1990s recession, which was horrendous.
So bringing inflation down and keeping inflation down is an unambiguously good thing.
Well, if you get a major supply shock, oil shock or whatever, and if that results in a significant reduction in the output of a whole range of things, that is almost by definition a recession.
It means people get put out of work and it does have significant impact on the economy.
I think in this environment, clearly the RBA has already raised rates a few times.

If I think about the oil price shock, I think about the shock for a whole range of other prices, certainly you're likely to see a significant increase in inflation.
Whether you get back to seven or not, I doubt.
