This is a case actually that could still be solved by witnesses coming forward, by talking to people, talking to other criminals.

A lot of the people who created that fear in the area at that particular time are now gone.

Their status as major criminals would no longer be there to affect any potential witnesses or anything like that.

He would sort of hope, like I mean, that their conscience would eventually help them to come and say, look, I did see this.

I did see who did it.

I did see the people who did this.

I know them.

Okay, my name is Brian Sherry and I'm a retired detective inspector.

I retired in July 2007.

And at that particular time, just before my retirement, I was based in Blanchardstown.

And that area was covering Finglas and Cabra and Blanchardstown.

And I joined the Guards back in 1971.

And I had 36 years service at that time.

I decided to retire in 2007, but I had made my mind up in 2006.

And shortly after this murder, like, I mean, that made my mind up.

Most of the murders I had investigated up to that were well-known criminals and everything else like that.

Marlow was a well-known criminal, but John Campbell wasn't.

When I walked into the house that morning, I saw him on the floor with a hole in his head.

And he was lying just under the radiator.
