Thank you, Steve.
Great to be with you.
Well, thanks, Steve.
And I echo everything that Frank and Grant and others have said about Sam.
He was, as you say, straight out of central casting, as President Trump would say.
And I think he was a great admirer of President Trump.
and he wanted very much to be supportive of what the president's agenda was.
I first knew Sam from his books, and you were mentioning Beyond Repair, which I have a copy of here, the decline and fall of the CIA.
And I thought it was a remarkable book back then, and I still do.
I opened it again the other day.
And it was really about, and is really about, how the CIA is a very dangerous organization.
dangerous not to have one, and dangerous to have one that had become as bureaucratized and politicized as the current CIA.
And he really believed in men and women who worked for the CIA, but he wanted to effectively eliminate it as we currently know it, and to recreate a new, what he called the new OSS.
and to have it be a much smaller organization, much more nimble, much more effective and fully operational to defend the country.
Because he believed, as he says throughout the book, that the goal of the CIA was to make sure that Americans could go to sleep at night, knowing that there were men and women in the CIA making sure that the monsters around the world were not capable of taking away our freedom.
That's how he wrote.
That's how he spoke.
I think his writing is among the most brilliant you're going to find from any national security practitioner.
And even though he's gone, he lives on in his writings and especially those books we've mentioned today.
