And my response is we don't have the luxury of being able to say, oh, well, I think it's gonna be this person or this person.

I wonder what's gonna happen between AOC and Gavin Newsom and J.B.

Pritzker.

We have to get through an election cycle right now where Trump is already trying to wield every tool at his disposal to try and undermine the results of a free and fair election before a single vote has been cast.

We know that he's trying to ban mail-in ballots.

We know that they're trying to pass the Save America Act where they can consolidate a lot of control of state elections at the federal level.

We know that they're refusing to rule out sending ICE to polling places as we watch these ICE agents basically murder Americans with impunity.

So I agree that we don't have the luxury of being able to say this is politics as usual because it's not.

But at the same time, we have to do both in the sense that we have to make sure that we're fighting to focus on the election right in front of us, but also offer something of a proactive agenda so that people have something to believe in.

We've tried just running on anti-Trump.

Obviously, it's effective to a degree, but there are limits.

And the country doesn't think that any political party is going to deliver.

And so if you don't give them something to believe in,

I think all you're going to do is leave people in a situation where there is a vacuum of faith in government, not an adherence to the values of one party or the other.

And really, that I think is the most dangerous, like having a vacuum of faith in government, because that creates the conditions for autocracy to thrive when people just completely give up on participating in the electoral process.

I think we have a massive role.

I think that the media space is the front lines of this battle for democracy.

In terms of legacy media, look, I don't know that the rise of independent media

um necessarily signaled like signal to death now for legacy media i think that legacy media was going down anyway um shedding viewership anyway people were coming into the independent spaces and the online spaces regardless um i think what we offered was a place for those legacy media expats
