I'm looking up every player's hometown, emailing their paper, and I'm like, can I write a story about this guy?

Brett Gardner wrote a story for his hometown paper, USA Today Let Me Freelance, ESPN the magazine, because I had the access.

I was like, I'm here.

I can do something for you.

No, no, you don't have to pay me anything but like what the story would cost, right?

No expenses.

So I kept doing that.

And in 2010, like after that ended in the wintertime, I got very close to taking a job with Nesson, which is the Red Sox RSN.

And I said to MLB.com, like, this has been great.

Thank you so much for all this opportunity.

But like, I can't work for $150 a game.

Like, I'm getting a job.

I'm taking this job.
