I think the other thing that's so fascinating to me is that I've spoken with Chrystia Freeland about China and the U.S.
at times in the past.
She's a great student, as you know, of international relations.
This is something that she's written about and is quite expert on.
The US is incoherent in its relationship with China right now.
Everybody that I talk to knows how the Trump administration is thinking, says they're really more worried about one thing than all the other things, which is we can't fall behind China, especially in areas like artificial intelligence.
but they haven't had a consistent approach to China.
They ratcheted tariffs up to 150% and they're down averaging around 23% now.
Why?
Because China retaliated.
So you've got this situation where
I think a lot of Americans still think that the terror policy is a bad policy, but the rest of the world is not really reacting to it that much.
But the rest of the world is reacting.
And the biggest thing that the rest of the world is doing is not retaliating so much.
but getting on with their lives, figuring out what they're going to do if they can't count on the United States to be what it has been in the past.
I think that the risks for America are really, really profound, and I think that's part of what I enjoyed in the reading of that column is that she –
She's pretty blunt about that.
Oh, it's 100% truth.
But it also is, and I read her Substack piece.
She's a good writer and, you know, careful analyst of national politics.
