Progressive candidate Annalilia Maia and former Congressman Tom Malinowski are in a tight race to become the North Jersey District's next representative.
Maia is the progressive liberal, Malinowski the centrist moderate.
They're vying to fill a seat that was vacated after Mikey Sherrill won the state's gubernatorial race in November.
After polls closed Thursday night, Maia led Malinowski by less than 500 votes.
As of Sunday night, her lead had expanded to nearly 900 votes, with 93 percent of the votes counted.

New York has already shivered through one of the coldest winters in recent memory, but a new blast of Arctic air whipped up by strong winds are making for life-threatening conditions up and down the eastern seaboard.
Lows in New York will be pushing towards zero, and winds gusting up to 50 mph will make it feel colder than 20 below.
Lows in the teens are happening as far south as North Carolina, and a large swath of upstate New York and New England were already below zero as of midnight.
In New York, Sunday's highs will only climb into the teens, more than 20 degrees below average.
Temperatures will moderate over the week ahead, breaking through the freezing mark, but just barely.
