Yeah, I mean, the Lone Star...
I mean, the same biologist on Martha's Vineyard told me a typical deer in a season can carry 500 to 1,000 ticks.
That's probably deer tick and Lone Star ticks.
But yeah, I mean, they're like the perfect vessel for carrying these.
There's so much blood in them, they can't get them off.
And so in areas like Georgia and all across the country where they have high deer populations, they're just breeding factories for Lone Star ticks.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, I feel like, I mean, I started working for science magazines almost 40 years ago.
And even then at the very beginning, there were this debate about what do we do about deer populations?
My first magazine was an environmental magazine.
And the question I think was Fire Island in New York.
And they were saying, what are we gonna do with the deer?
And back then the big fight was between, really in an interesting way, between ecologists who were saying, these deer are disastrous for the ecosystem.
They're eating all the native plants.
They're like just changing the whole environment.
And animal rights activists.
And people who just loved animals, not necessarily PETA people, but just people who didn't wanna see these beautiful animals killed.
And it's amazing to me that 40 years later, it's still the same debate.
Because it felt like it was pretty clear 40 years ago that we have too many deer, that they're bad for the environment, and that there's an easy solution to this, which is, you know, relaxing hunting laws in some cases.
