These are things that are meaningful to other people because they're aimed at targets that are cross-contextual.
So the thing I think that's really doing the work here is not merely that there's a number, but that number is based –
on an infrastructure of counting things that we all recognize.
So I think it's more about this kind of constructed, portable, intercomprehensibility that ties us to the kinds of things that everyone can recognize rather than just a pure... Does that track for you?
Yeah, I think a lot of these things are, I want to call, okay, this is the dumbest term.
I want to call them like binarization devices or clarity devices.
And you can even see these in games too.
So here's the dumbest, maybe you'll find this interesting.

So if you have a bunch of people who are very athletic.
and you have them interact in some way and you're like, okay, pick the best athlete.
Even though we're narrowing down just athleticism, that is such a complex judgment.
You're talking about skill.
You're talking about grace.
You're talking about, and even if you do a particular skill, like who's better at like fast maneuvering, like even then, like it's really like you might, we might all look at a bunch of people like moving around each other, trying to, and we can't,
Make a clear judgment on who won.
And then we put in a basketball net and we say, okay, get the ball through the hoop.
That just instantly clarifies things, right?
That's a legibility device, a divinerization device.
