I needed that structure to get me over to see that subtlety.
And it's also why metrics won't change.

That subtlety is also exactly why you'll never be able to get a metric that exactly captures a value.
And I think the way that games do it is they don't try to get you there perfectly.
They give you a shove in the right direction, and that's what they're the best for, right?
They're a shove in the general direction, and then you eventually get up and teeter on your own feet and find your way.
But we need that help.
We need both a combination of the assistance of external systems to help us find our way and then the willingness to trust ourselves to navigate and hear the inner voice to catch on to what's subtle.
But if we're stuck on the metric the entire time, we'll never start to hear the smaller signals that will help us close in.
I think that story encapsulates so much about Sluka
why I think games are so important to think about and understand and to cherish.
And I think there's two levels in which games and your relationship to snooker for me are kind of the opposite of the metrics despair that we've been talking about.

A lot of this came from me.
So the book that you read is my second book.
It's also my first popular book.
My first book was an academic book about the nature of games and trying to understand what made games valuable.
So actually the first book I wrote basically out of irritation.
Like that was my starting motive.
