I will go out there and find every book.
I will talk to every expert.
I will find out and I will ask them the question, how do I make my daughter better?
And no one could answer that question.
They were like, it's part of the journey.
She will have therapy.
The average length of an eating disorder is five to seven years.
I'd really hope that by the time she saw a therapist, she'd be better by Christmas and eating sausages on New Year's Day.
And it's also the mental illness with the highest mortality rate.
So when you're told this by a doctor, you're like, oh God, this is really serious and the stakes are incredibly high.
So I researched it as much as I could, but no one could tell me how to make her better.
And so when she did finally recover, everything that I'd learned about that did help her to get better, that was what I put in my next book because it was like, I need to share this information.
When a child stops eating, they are communicating with you.
It's a physical communication and they are having to physically manifest how they feel because you, for whatever reason, are not listening to what they're saying.
And because my family was a family where if you were sad, no one cared.
You just had to cheer up and make a joke and crack on with it.
As soon as she started getting ill, I would just be like, yeah, but, you know, an eating disorder doesn't start with an eating disorder.
It starts with someone being anxious and depressed.
And when she started to be anxious and depressed, I was just like, well, fuck up.
Come on.
