One of the keys for time blocking is it's okay for your time blocks to change.
It's actually really hard to time block an eight hour day and get it right.
And that's fine.
I actually have a time block planner.
You can time block on any piece of paper, but in my planner, there's a bunch of columns.
And the whole idea is when you mess up your current schedule because something takes longer or whatever, you just move to the next column, make a new plan.
And then when that one gets messed up, next time you get a chance, you move to the next column and make a new plan.
Like the goal with time blocking is not to win by making a plan that you stick with.
The goal is to win by always having intention.
I've thought about the time that remains and I have an idea for what I want to do with it.
It might not completely work out, but at least I have an idea.
I'm not just going freestyle.
Another thing that matters for time blocking is you're probably at first going to give yourself not nearly enough time for everything.
Whatever you feel is a reasonable amount of time to do something, double it.
Because we're just really bad at it.
You get better at it as you time block more.
But at first, you're going to be super optimistic about how long things take, and you're going to be way too short.
So you have to just expand the amount of time you give for things.
You can't just have a 10-minute sliver.
Oh, empty my inbox.
