When email finally spread in the 90s, people said, this just makes sense.

I can send a message to someone like a mail message from my computer.

Here's their name.

Here's the message I press send.

It took me nine seconds to learn.

This is great.

Right.

And then everyone started using it.

AI is going to have that email moment.

I don't think in its current form factor, though.

Oh, yeah.

They often build on each other in interesting ways.

So in 2012, I wrote a book called So Good They Can't Ignore You, which was arguing that follow your passion is bad advice.

That's not how people end up passionate about their work.

But then the flip side of that book is, well, what does matter?

Getting good at things that are valuable, which is a topic we've talked about sort of throughout this interview.

A follow-up question to that was, well, how do I get good at things that are valuable?

Well, that led to my next book, Deep Work.

And I still build my working life around the ideas of deep work that focus concentration is what produces the really valuable things.

So make sure you have a lot of time where you're doing undistracted focus on the things that really matter.
