And that's when you get stuck and you get trapped into wanting to call it.
I would only have a certain number of guys that I felt really comfortable throwing it against that even if it wasn't a great one, I still had, again, room for error.
It's all about protecting.

And so there might be two or three guys that are, you know, the stats say they're hitting, you know, 130 on sliders.
And so depending on game situation, depending on if I have a guy that will take early spin, maybe there's lefties that, you know, for sure in the scouting report or your experiences, which typically worked really well for guys that had six, seven years in the big leagues, you knew no matter who,
was on the mound, if they were right-handed and that hitter was left-handed, you could throw a backdoor spin and they would check down every single time.
That's when I might want to throw it.
But unless there's a right-hander that is just absolutely awful that you can throw a cement mixer up there and it's not going to get slugged, that's really no spot that I might throw it other than some of these early counts steal me strikes so you don't have to throw split fingers early and count and show that pitch.
But what happens is he throws a couple of really good ones.
you might get a couple of swing and misses, and that's when you can get fooled into thinking this is going to be a good pitch today instead of sticking to the game plan, being consistent with it.
I've seen him for over a decade now.
I caught him probably still more than anybody on this planet, and it's a pitch that you can't fall in love with.
Even if you see some good action, you've got to keep it where it is and realize it's just what it is, and don't let that pitch beat you.
My goodness, like stop getting beat by the slider.
