Speak of a guy that's working through mechanical issues, I do also think that, like you just said, there's a mental aspect too.
So I think he's going through both of them.
Normally you have a pitcher that goes through one or the other where their confidence is low, even though you as a catcher feel like they're still in good shape.
They need some successes to kind of make them believe that their stuff is good.
But I think Trey's right in the middle of both of them.
I think the league is hitting back, and it's hitting back pretty hard.
And what happens with some of these young stars that come up that have instant success is –
They just don't know how to deal with failure, and this might be the first time that he's, I'm not going to say failure, but first time in a while that he's really kind of feeling it more than just one inning or more than just one start, and that can mess with a guy in many different directions, but until he gets kind of mechanically in sync where he's releasing the ball in the same spot that he typically needs to so that those pitches move, he's going to struggle, and it's the high arm side miss up and into a right-hander, and it's some of these really
spiked split fingers and spiked breaking sliders, that really shows me that you're off mechanically.
But as a catcher, you try and work with him in terms of your setups.
If he's throwing it and he's spraying it high arm side, you've got to work within setting up to give him the best shot.

on edge so to speak and you're you're kind of watching everything about him you'll have a good feel within the first inning or inning and a half two innings if he's kind of got it if he's got it then you're just running through the game plan if he doesn't have it you as a catcher have got to take it upon yourself to really set up in ways to get him through that game and then you go back you know three two days later during your your midweek bullpen and try and continue to figure out mechanically what's going on but he's all out of sorts right now and
It's just too bad because you know this is going to happen.
But for a guy that's been such an anchor for the team, I just hate watching rookies struggle and deal with failure for the first time in the big leagues because you can just see it in their eyes.
And you're starting to see a little bit of that glazed over look in Trey's eyes.
And we did not see that at all last year, obviously, because he dominated.
But he'll be fine.
He's a strong kid.
He's mentally tough.
