Well, it certainly can help your career right now because there are a lot of companies that are being pretty tight with the payroll right now. matched

In fact, you look at how many layoffs are going on in the tech sector and some other businesses, too, where you have businesses that feel like they pretty much have enough or maybe even too many worker bees, people who can do the work that they need themselves. matched

And increasingly, they're looking for who's going to be the right fit. matched

Who do we vibe with? matched

That's another word that came up consistently in my conversations with both job candidates and hiring managers for this story. matched

Having a winning personality, being warm and friendly, it's always giving you a leg up, of course, whether it's in face-to-face interviews or, you know, as a tiebreaker, perhaps. matched

I mean, if you have two people who are equally qualified, often the person who's more likable might get the edge. matched

So this isn't an entirely brand new phenomenon. matched

I just think what's really striking in this moment is the level of... matched

angst and crankiness in the U.S. matched

workforce right now and the managerial challenge that comes with that, especially with workers distributed or working from home a lot of the time. matched

And bosses, they're looking for solutions to this. matched

This may be an imperfect solution, but if you're on the prowl for a new job right now, it certainly can't hurt you to give the person interviewing the warm and fuzzies. matched

There are folks who actually think of the term personality hire as an insult, but plenty of other folks raise their hand and say, yep, that's me. matched

And I wear it like a badge of honor. matched

In fact, I've seen people advertising themselves as personality hires themselves. matched

on LinkedIn. matched

I decided to reach out to one of those types of people, a woman named Danielle Norris, who works in marketing for a staffing agency in finance and insurance. matched

I'm generalizing, kind of a dry industry sometimes. matched

And so she said, look, I'm a personality hire who also works hard. matched
