You think you have somebody good.

And either the budget gets cut or the company decides we could probably get somebody on the cheap.

It's discouraging.

There's no doubt.

They're, in some cases, sending out hundreds of resumes.

I spoke with a woman named Cara Crabb Burnham.

who told me she's applied to roughly 500 jobs since September and gotten only five interviews out of it.

So, you know, when your conversion rate is that low, there's just no way around feeling really discouraged.

And even if you know that you're good at what you do, it's hard for it not to get in your head.

I'll say another thing, too.

that we've all come to enjoy if you're applying for jobs, say the easy apply button on LinkedIn, let's say.

The downside of that is that you get such big pools that you can sort of psych yourself out.

Some job seekers told me you look at a job listing and you can already see 300 people have applied to this role.

And before you've even drafted that cover letter, you've already told yourself, well, how am I going to stand out in a pool that big?

Recruiters say there are still some things you can do.

One is just apply early because if there are hundreds of people getting into the pool, it behooves you to get in early.

You might be snapped up quickly.

And of course, recruiters would rather not wade through all those resumes if they don't have to.

But the other thing I would say, too, is just to keep in mind all of the factors that we just talked about.
