We had Obama to look up to.

And Barack Obama was a complicated president, great, and very much in his behavior as a human being, a paragon of American moral values as we were supposed to see them, right?

You know, the American president

that everybody in these prior generations understood to be a good, decent person.

Obama represented that and he set a very high standard for us for who to look up to.

So when Donald Trump came in and went absolutely fucking bananas on everybody, we had a sense that this was wrong.

But when these younger Gen Zers saw this behavior, they thought it was normal and therefore they thought Joe Biden was boring and they were coming of age and entering young adulthood.

while Biden was president and things weren't going so great.

So they didn't understand that the president does not have very much short-term impact on the economy.

And a lot of things were getting pinned on Biden.

I think that is number two.

Number one, in terms of influence, I really think can be as simple as

COVID isolated us.

COVID had us looking at our screens and social media more than ever.

And the social media algorithms are trained to show men specific types of content.

And the content that is actively being made for men skews very harsh to the right, very anti-woman, and very anti...

Immigrant community, all these different things.

The conservatives want us to feel alone.

They want us to be in bubbles.

They want us to read less, be less educated.
