I don't think it's too much of a spoiler for us to kind of give these consequences away because... Oh, no, you won't want to laugh, Cassie.
So this is the point where the stories diverge.
We have this prologue, and in the first three chapters, we get a replay of the same event in three different ways, which is very kind of typical of like a time travel story almost.
So in the bear scene, Gordon comes home, and there's quite a violent altercation, which results in him actually pushing a neighbor who tries to intervene through a window who dies.
In the Julian timeline, we discover that much later, it's never really specified exactly when this event took place, except that Julian, the child, was still quite young.
It's probably worth mentioning that Maya, his sister, is nine at the time he's born, so there's quite a big age gap between them.
But it's later revealed that in the Julian timeline...
Gordon kills his wife as well.
He murders Cora.
And he, in both of those timelines, is not really a part of the story because he's in prison in both of those contexts.
And then when the name is Gordon, that's the only real timeline where the father character remains present in the story throughout, which I'll fully confess is quite hard to take.
That is quite tough, isn't it?
Gordon is the absolute worst.
He is not a good dude by any means.
I think this structure is fantastic.
In terms of the way the book executes it, I think this is an example of a book that does this incredibly well.
Because as we said at the top, there's kind of two structures at play here.
There's the sliding doors.
So the storyline always goes in the same order.
You get Bear, Julian, and then Gordon.
