So the social gradient in health, and by that meaning with each step up the income ladder, health...

gets better, which means at the bottom of that ladder, it is worse.

That is just the family and the zip code that you are born into.

Redistributing this income in a way that helps those kids at the bottom, because we know that that is one of the biggest risk factors for mental health problems, in addition to adding an extra burden on caregiver mental health.

Pay teachers more.

Invest in teachers.

Invest in counselors in our schools.

Teachers spend more time with our children at a certain point than parents do, right?

And many of them are taking second jobs, struggling to make ends meet.

The last one, and this does involve technology, but it's the opposite side of it.

which is we have an opportunity to deliver digital mental health services to reach young people in ways that we have not before.

So this is a tremendous opportunity for us to actually deliver services at work, to reach people in just in time moments.

So many people will talk about the suicide risk and whether or not social media causes that.

If we're going to talk about suicide, we should talk about the ways in which we could leverage resources, crisis text line, or the way we could deliver interventions just in time, which is what we know prevents that risk.

And so those would be my wishes.

I wouldn't spend all of my policy efforts and time trying to ban social media and going around congratulating myself that I'd slayed big tech, but done nothing to actually help kids.

Yeah so even if you don't have children or aren't parenting you know in your day-to-day life or maybe you're a grandparent or an aunt or an uncle there are huge opportunities to invest in young people whether that's through volunteering whether that's through you know attending community events whether that's they're just not kicking young people out of public spaces and kind of checking yourself on the assumptions you might be making about them there.

I think the other thing that we can all do is we know that scary stories about teenagers sells.

And every generation did this, right?

So for my generation, they talked about Pac-Man addiction that was going to rot our brains.
