But the really good thing about this scheme is that the state have agreed that they will reimburse any prescription which is generated as part of this service in line with the existing community drug schemes.
So what that means is if you're like a medical card patient or on drug payment scheme, then the existing arrangements for how you pay with your prescriptions will hold true as part of this service as well.
So you're not penalised for going to your pharmacy.
Yeah, so obviously some of the parts of that package that are quite specific to pharmacy and where I do believe will add real value in pharmacy are around medicine shortages and what you've referred to will also help with medicine shortages there too.
The package will actually increase visibility for pharmacists earlier around medication shortages because currently...
in pharmacy from an ipu survey the average pharmacist is spending over six hours per week dealing with medicine shortages and if you think about the impact and where that time could be better spent in the context of the conversation that we're having yeah i think this is massive chasing drugs to see where they can get them yeah absolutely and you know that's quite stressful for patients too and that's something we really want to avoid and something we really want to support with
Yeah, I think there's been a lot of coverage about this over the past couple of days.
And I'll probably come back to the key point, which is the patient.
And I would say to any patient who's hearing the stories, you know, don't be alarmed.
Speak to your pharmacist.
We are the experts in your medicine care.
We can understand and help support you with what it's going to mean for you and what will change for you.
And I think...
You know, it was very clearly said yesterday as well.
The union and the minister are in conversations about how we support our vulnerable patients.
And I think we need to make sure that they don't have to pay more money.
Well, we just need to understand exactly what the outcome of that is.
But I think it's important we let them talk that through and let them have that conversation to do the right thing for our patients.
