Emails on your day off, a call that can't wait, an email that needs to be returned, a deadline that doesn't care what your working arrangements, you know, uh requirements are.

And you absorb it.

Because as a mum, you feel grateful for the flexibility, that you feel grateful that you've got a job.

And because also you wanna seem like you're not pulling your weight.

I hear this so much and actually I'll put my hand up and say I'm guilty myself.

Even working four days a week now, next Monday I've said, yes, not a problem, I will go into the out work office for a few hours when actually it's my unpaid day.

What am I gonna do?

Take a bit of debit.

I'm gonna then find some time for myself at another p point for those

three or four hours that'll be there.

And I want to gently say that a three-day role that's quietly functioning as a five-day role is not actually protecting the time you negotiated to be with your baby.

And that matters because it feeds that sense of being stretched across two worlds without ever fully arriving in either one.

I've been there.

I've tried to do way more at three days, and I remember having both of my kids.

Screaming and

like being distractive when I was trying to do a work call and I was on my day off and it was just for me a real juncture of like, okay, this is not working.

Something's got to change here.

That for me was my moment of going, no, this is then four days.

I was doing the work.

Might as well get paid for it.
