But regardless of how prone to boredom you might be, could some people be better at it?
Could certain personality traits help you feel more positive forms of boredom, or better harness boredom for things like heightened creativity?
Well, Dr.
Gihoon Park from the ANU's Research School of Management designed a series of experiments published in 2019 to help answer that question.
It began with about 100 students from a Singaporean university being asked to sort beans.
This luckier control group got to make any kind of interesting artistic creation, using their jar of beans as inspiration.
The rest continued sorting.
Red, green.

Because she wanted to see how creative her participants could be with those excuses.
There have been several studies linking boredom to heightened creativity.
So she expected the now very bored beansorting students to come up with more creative ideas.
So the students who had to do the boring bean sorting came up with more ideas and more unique ideas for why they might be late.
Next, Dr.
Park wanted to make sure that it was definitely boredom and not some other emotion that was linked to more creative answers.
So she asked students to self-assess their levels of boredom, frustration, and anger after they did either the boring bean sorting task or the artistic bean task.
This data showed that the beansors were more bored than the bean artists, but that both groups had similar low levels of anger and frustration.
Building on these first two studies, the final study that Dr.
Park conducted aimed to figure out whether certain personality traits could help people respond to boredom with greater creativity.
Yep, she asked them to design a pooper scooper for dogs.
