This is how to do it.
Book 30 minutes with your manager and come prepared.
Don't go in complaining.
Don't say I'm burnout or this is too much.
Instead, frame it around value creation.
Say something like this.
I've been reflecting on where I create the most value for the team.
I've noticed that I'm most effective and productive and produce the best results when I'm doing whatever your genius work zone is.
Right now, I'm spending a significant amount of time on...
whatever your excellent zone work is.
And while I can do it, I'm wondering if there's a way we can shift some of that work so I can focus more on where I have the biggest impact for the team.
Most good managers, I said this on the previous episode, they want you in your genius zone because that's where you create the most value for the organization.
Now, they might not be able to shift everything overnight, but often they can help you move 20 to 30% of your excellent zone work off of your plate.
And that shift makes all the difference.
Okay, the second option is to start delegating strategically.
This is as specifically relevant if you're managing other people.
Look at your excellent zone work and ask, who would this work energize?
Because here's the thing, your excellent zone might be someone else's genius zone.
That detail execution work that drains you, that might be exactly what energizes someone on your team who loves processes and implementation.
Those administrative coordination tasks that you barely tolerate, someone else might actually enjoy organizing and bringing structure to chaos.
