Partly because it would just send such a terrible message to the rest of the world that all of that climate leadership that we used to feel so proud of. matched

of that we used to be well known for, uh is now not something we're going to pursue. matched

And if we as what are we, I don't know, the sixth or seventh richest country in the world are not going to uh stick our necks out and do that, then it feels very difficult for us to have any moral authority to say anything to the rest of the world about what they should be doing. matched

I think first of all, on the issue of sovereignty, and I mean, if you take Rosebank as an example, 80% of the oil at Rosebank is exported because it's not appropriate for the kind of oil refineries that we have. matched

So the idea that that's going to help us with sovereignty, I think, is just misguided. matched

At the end of the day, these are resources that get sold on global markets at international prices. matched

And just because it gets extracted from the North Sea doesn't mean to get matched

It gets used in the North Sea, unless and until we're talking about some kind of state owned oil and gas companies, which uh I suspect Rory is not talking about. matched

So I think the sovereignty argument actually leans exactly in the opposite direction. matched

It leans into more renewables. matched
