Yeah, but I mean the argument was made and won for carbon tax, you know, back in in in twenty nineteen, twenty twenty, and hard won and supported by, you know, all the main parties, the government parties.
So, you know, when it's it's unfortunate it keeps landing at the door of carbon tax.
You know, it struck me what Christine Lagarde said.
One of her her tripartite of words there was temporary measures.
You know, but if the government keeps applying temporary measures to each new crisis, eventually temporary measures become kind of permanent.
We're in a kind of state of recurring crisis here.
So, you know, whether it's a uh energy credit, universal energy credit, tailored energy credit, um
a tax cut, a carbon tax deferral.
There's always seems to be something.
You know, and it it and I'm not saying that it shouldn't do something because people are hurting um but it does sort sort of take it it should put the emphasis back on how are we going to get ourselves off this crisis kind of wheel.
And the crisis is our dependence on energy that is fossil fuel driven, which we don't own, which we have to import, which is subject to all sorts of
political madness in the world.
So
You know, while yes, we have to get the budget out of the way and people are looking for something, um, that long term that long term goal of just getting people off of fossil fuels, it has to happen, it has to be accelerated.
There is an issue, yeah.
Now bear in mind a big chunk of the carbon tax still goes into general taxation.
So it was only the big increases that started year on year from twenty twenty onwards.
That is supposed to be hypothecated or ring fenced.
