There is rain to come.

Now, it's going to be in short supply for the next four or four days or so in parts of the east and south of the country where it is expected to remain mostly dry throughout with rather mild temperatures here.

Farther towards Connacht and Ulster, we will see outbreaks of rain here, typically light rain, a little bit heavier maybe towards coastal districts.

But in general, it is a more mixed picture as we go through the course of the remainder of the weekend.

and into the start of next week and more generally then towards the second half of next week we could see more mixed conditions.

That unfortunately is not the case across Europe, across the areas that are impacted by the wildfires at the moment and significant drought conditions.

We are likely to see perhaps the strongest heat wave yet this year occurring through the forthcoming week which given the current conditions is rather concerning.

In terms of the drought conditions that we've seen and in terms of the drying out conditions, we have seen quite a considerable trend developing whereby we have seen drier conditions in the east and south.

That's reflected, of course, by the water shortages that we're seeing.

Of course, there are other complications as to why that is the case too.

In terms of the increase in temperatures, it's not so much even in relation to the extremes in daily values.

Of course, the Irish record stands at 33.3 degrees Celsius.

That was set back in 1887.

But it's the increase in the duration of the heat waves that we are seeing.

For example, the past couple of weeks, we've seen our temperatures exceed the heat wave threshold in Ireland, which is 25 degrees Celsius at Moorpark.

for 13 days consecutively.

We missed out on equalling the record, which was set in 1976 by 0.1 degrees Celsius and 0.2 degrees Celsius on the subsequent days.

And in terms of the overall temperatures, we're talking about the aggregated daily temperatures, but also nighttime temperatures.

So the accumulative effect of those temperatures is definitely indicating.
