And they started adding a $1.50 per gallon stipend to each paycheck this spring.
No, we've seen really high gas prices in the past, certainly, you know, $3.78 a gallon back in 2008.
And so companies have explored some of these options before, but many of them point out that they're facing a little bit of a perfect storm right now of conditions, and the gas prices is just one of the concerns right now.

They're concerned about what a looming recession could mean for their headcount.
And so they're being really cautious about what does comp look like?

You know, one of the employers I spoke with said that he'd love to hand out bonuses and gift certificates and things like that all the time, but he's really more concerned with people having a job to come to should we enter a recession.

They're taking a look at whether working about 80% of the time with 100% of the output and earning 100% of the wages that these employees would earn otherwise can improve well-being without sacrificing productivity.
You know, we're seeing that the pandemic really forced employers to rethink a lot of aspects of work, including the traditional five day, 40 hour schedule that many of us conceptualize the work week as.
And they're looking for ways right now to boost loyalty and build morale and really to hang on to folks in a tight labor market.
It's a six-month pilot project and it includes about 3,300 workers, 70 businesses across industries and occupations, you know, banks, fast food restaurants.

Between 2015 and 2019, Iceland studied this among a group of workers.
And in most cases, overall output didn't decline.
In some cases, it actually improved.
