You know, it's a joke that people like to make.
Of course, this meeting could have been an email.
But like a lot of great jokes, it's born from the truth.
You know, people hated meetings before the pandemic.
And then meetings, Zoom, just these back-to-back calendar invites that span the whole calendar day to night sort of became the norm.
But if you skip a meeting, it can seem like, you know, you're not checked into your remote workplace.
Well, that's one of these things that's really funny about this because we talk a lot about the technology, but really, like, technology just replicates whatever was going on when we were all, you know, in a conference room together.
So if you are the person convening the meeting, if you're a leader, laying out some norms really transparently can be a great idea.
You know, here's how we do things like we use the raise hand function or we use the chat function or we don't use the chat function during this part of the meeting.
It's going to really cut down on the potential for things to be awkward and
to have people feeling like they have to jockey for attention.
Because as soon as you have people feeling like I have to say something in this meeting, even though I don't necessarily have something material to say, you're again getting into the arena of this meeting probably should have been an email.
Yeah.
You know, one of the sources we spoke with for this story said that it's not that everyone has to speak.
It's that everybody has to be able to share their viewpoint.
You know, everyone has to feel empowered.
that they were able to participate, even if they didn't at some point talk for an uninterrupted three minutes.
And so there's a lot of different ways to do that.
You know, one example is better use of the chat function, you know, which is often used for these kind of like side conversations or like a quick interjection when you have to
you know, if you have to duck out early or something, you can do things like say, like throw out a question, ask people to respond in the chat, and then you, the leader of the meeting, can sort of summarize the responses.
