if they want to go, you know, like network with folks, or learn more about what things are like, you know, beyond the classroom, they haven't had a lot of outlets for that.
And now, that's really changed, because most teachers now know a whole group of people who've left, and they can ask them their questions and see clearly that there were other avenues where they found success and fulfillment and potentially more money and that, you know, it wasn't the end of the world when they left.
Some of the people I spoke with took a pay cut but saw the potential for greater pay growth over the arc of their new career, which wasn't something that they expected.

But for others, the money just wasn't the most important consideration anymore.
And so you know, there are a few people who got like a very small raise, but that wasn't really the important thing.
And as you said, there were others who took pay cuts, and it was just that it was more about their day to day experience, it was more about their quality of life or mental health.
And the money for them wasn't the primary consideration.
Well, one of the things that was interesting that a number of people pointed out to me is that being a teacher doesn't have to be something that's associated with or sort of underlined exclusively by your job title.
Those are skills and a sensibility that you can carry with you wherever you go into any other job.
And so I think that there are a number of occupations for which workers might describe them as a calling, which makes them
that much more difficult to separate from if conditions change, if your personal priorities change.
But it's important to remember that your skills base and the talents that you bring to a particular job can often be extremely useful in a number of places.
As with any New Year's resolution, you know, we see lots of people sort of go 100 miles an hour right at the wall, you know, for like the first couple of weeks of January and then just kind of fizzle out because that's no way to live.
And it's true for job hunting, too.

This is the year I'm going to find my dream job.
But actually, conditions for people who want to go this route are pretty advantageous right now.
