Job listings are plentiful, wages are rising, unemployment is low.

And so for folks who think that they want to start a new job, get a promotion, try and land a big raise, now's a great time to do that.

And a big part of that equation

can be figuring out what your dream job would or should be.

So where am I now and where do I really want to be going so that you can make that connection?

Well, one of the experts I spoke with recommended that people get really specific about what it is that you don't like about your current job.

And to that end, whether you actually need to make a move or whether there are things that you should just be trying to fix.

So one of the examples that...

she gave me was, you know, do you actually want better boundaries, better work life balance?

Is that something that you could work out with a boss or figure out how to get a little more staff support for your work, something like that?

Or do you work in a family owned business where there's a son in law who's always going to be in line for the job that you're really hoping to get eventually?

That's something that you're probably not going to be able to fix.

You're probably going to need to change organizations.

And so getting really specific about what it is you don't like and how you could address that, either in your current role or in the next one, is a great place to start.

Well, the risk here is that you're going to burn yourself out.

So as with any New Year's resolution, you know, we see lots of people sort of go 100 miles an hour right at the wall, you know, for like the first couple of weeks of January and then just kind of fizzle out because that's no way to live.

And it's true for job hunting, too.

And so, you know, experts recommend here.

to get really structured in how you do this.
