Now a big question is what do the financial markets predict from this meeting?

Well, not much.

A Goldman Sachs survey conducted from September second through september twelfth found that roughly two thirds of investors viewed the summit as largely symbolic.

So investors don't appear to be betting on Trump and G solving the relationship in a day.

But rather they are mostly betting on the fact that the two sides avoid another major escalation.

And honestly, that may be the best way to understand what September 24th is actually all about.

The United States and China are not suddenly becoming allies or ending their competition, but really just saying, let's kind of maintain the status quo.

this so-called ceasefire.

That means the Taiwan problem is still there, the technology controls are still in place, the rare earth mineral problem still is an issue, the AI competition is accelerating, and both governments see the other as national security risks.

They also realize that an unmanaged competition between the two largest economies in the world can be dangerous.

So I do believe the immediate objective of both Xi Jinping and Donald Trump is to just keep the competition inside some sort of boundary.

Then potentially they meet again.

Trump could see Xi Jinping at the APEC summit later this year.

There could also be another meeting around the G twenty.

If all of those meetings occur, Trump and Xi Jinping could end up meeting several times this year.

But honestly, the number of meetings is not that big of a deal.

The negotiations between those meetings are what matters here.

Leaders can announce agreements, but the officials have to turn those announcements into actual policy.

That's been the problem previously.

China actually has to buy the products it promised to buy.
