and whoever is so-called negotiating with Canada is basically putting that list and saying, if you don't tick all those boxes, we're going to do bad things to you.

Okay, I'll preface this by saying I do believe it's an important conversation.

I also understand that we are going about this in a different way from Australia, in part based on the Australian experience so far, and that we are trying to incentivize the platforms into putting guardrails that will mean that young people can continue to be on social media, even if they're not 16, in a safer environment.

So where my doubts come in, they come in first with the platforms.

I have seen very little evidence of serious goodwill on the part of any of those platforms to actually clean up their act in an effective way.

And two, our track record of standing up to platforms over the past,

two years is that we put in legislation and then we back off.

And why do we back off?
