so that the public's outrage does not boil over.

So please do not go for that pump fake if you are watching and listening and saying, oh, well, they have a victim's advocate liaison.

That must mean that they care about these families being informed.

That position is often intended to be a smokescreen for the department to quell any notion of outrage from the public.

I think that's such an important point, Don.

And I think the issue with that point is that too many of us dismiss these situations as if they might be one offs.

Not understanding that these are not the exception to the rule.

They're the exception that proves the rule, which is that there's a two tiered system of justice in America.

which is that we do not see the same types of resources and effort exerted when it comes to victims who look like me, you and Lee in all the cases that we should.

And that is a problem.

Justice does not work the same way for everyone.

And put plain and simply, when people stop and actually realize

when they realize the fact that, wow, all of this is happening in the face of public pressure, in the face of the fact that people know about the case, in the face of them having competent legal representation, and this is still happening.

That's when people should really ask themselves, well, what does it mean for someone who does not have that?

Because if there is nothing that this case should make us do at this point, with all that we don't know, with all that is still remained to be uncovered and found out and investigated, this should prompt a ruthless and vigilant interrogation of the system.

it should prompt a meticulous interrogation and demand of the process, which is something that I continue to stress as someone who's worked on both sides, because now people, if they did not before, absolutely are seeing how flawed it is and how it does not work.

And at the end of the day,

Even if I were to expect or accept rather that for Nolan Xavier Wells, this was somehow an anomaly in terms of how it was handled, which it is not.

That's still one black boy too many.

That's still one victim too many.
