If that narrative exists, it will surface through the facts.

We have to be vigilant in our pursuit of the facts rather than trying to make the facts fit a particular narrative.

And I think that understanding that is really important in this moment.

I'm not a journalist, Don.

I say this all the time.

But if there's anything that I could learn from and that we could all learn from principles of journalism, because I did take intro to journalism, is the importance of remembering objectivity and going where the facts take us rather than trying to craft a story and making the facts fit the path that we want it to.

No, you know, I saw someone say in the comments that, you know, talking about the system and people have sort of come at me in the past couple of days with the frustration with the system.

And I want to impress upon our viewers that every one of us on this panel right now is a black man.

And every one of us has, in different capacities, seen the system not work for Black men, seen the system have massive integrity gaps when it comes to justice and accountability on behalf of Black men.

Nolan Wells is very much so our brother, our nephew, our son.

And I can speak for, I believe, all three of us in saying that we absolutely are as invested as anyone outside of his family can be to the highest extent in finding out the truth and wanting to see accountability and transparency in this case.

Do not get it confused.

and believe that because we are prompting the integrity of the system in this manner, that we do not understand what's at stake here.

But I need people to understand the other side to how this works.

Because God forbid that we were to change the color of the victim and who we suspect, we would also want transparency of the process.

That's the other part that people aren't necessarily considering, that adhering to the process must allow us to make the process work both ways, both for victim and for offender.

And so Lee talked about the idea that if it were the other way around, that we would likely see an aggressive rush to an arrest.

Well, the importance of transparency in the process is that if that ever were to be the case, that we have precedent that we can point to and demand the same type of transparency and thoroughness in terms of the process before that aggressive type of decision is made.

And so looking at this.

appreciating the severity and the impact that it may have on Nolan Wells and his family, but also looking at the bigger picture and the implication that it could have for other black boys, both as victims potentially and as suspects, requires that we really do put our foot down and demand a transparent process that has integrity.
