And if you're not a risk, then that's not going to put other people in danger trying to help you.

And you also can't help anyone else until you are confident enough in the water to look after yourself.

Yeah, help yourself first.

That's a pretty common practice you're taught in a lot of first responder, dangerous jobs essentially, is that you can't help anyone else unless you are in a state to do so.

And that really fostered my passion for the ocean as well.

It's such an important part of my life.

I love being in the water.

I love the challenge of conditions that are never the same.

It's what's led me into my sport.

It's what's created my social network and I also think shaped a lot of my personality.

But as you progress through the surf club and have those skills and they're confident in your ability to handle the dangers of the water, that's when they really start to confront you with situations where you're forced to actually think about what can I do in a situation to help others when they most need help.

And I think just the fact that they get you thinking about that in your head when you're young.

So you do the SRCs, I think, when you're about 13 years old, and then you do your bronze when you're 16 or 17, something around that.

And you, again, can break that up into two scenarios.

You're learning in very important skills like first aid, like CPR, like how to rescue a person with a board or a tube.

But it's not just that.

It's getting you to spend your time thinking about if there is a really dangerous scenario going on.

What would you do to actually help that?

And I think introducing that thought process at such a young age allows you to put that into other aspects of your life.
