When you ask that question, I kind of think of what my three options were in that scenario.

And the first one was go to the beach, which would have been overwhelmingly driven by self-preservation.

Yeah, survival.

The second one was go in there and just do what I can to get the shark to let go of Leah.

Yeah.

And that would have been very much do what I can to help my community and no consideration for my own safety.

And I think the fact that I was kind of fighting between those options and then doing what I could whilst the shark was holding on to her really represents... There was always a conflict.

It was a really tight balance and I'm grateful for the fact that I was able to stay in the water.

And it meant that once I could weigh the risks enough and think, okay...

the shark's not actively a hold of Leah, I have the best chance of actually being able to do something to help here.

Cause I've, I'm pretty rationally driven.

And so part of the ways that I've gotten through this is being pleased with my decisions because one of the tough things is what else could I have done to help?

Could I have made a difference if I paddled in there whilst it held her?

And my belief is that all that would have done...

is further in danger myself with a pretty limited likelihood that i actually would have helped her affected her yeah it helped her um so yeah i think it was just a real uh a conflict within me that was such a fine balance that that kept me in the water and i think i owe that to just so many different things that happened into my life that factor into the way i make decisions
