It was so impressive what having training in those, in the medical training they had, what they were able to do to bring her back that quickly.

And...

Yeah, that's why since the incident, I've really gotten a lot of joy out of using my current profile to advocate for surf lifesaving one in the training that is allowed.

It's critical for me.

Yeah.

It's so important.

To keep her alive right in the early stages.

There's money, but also just the best benefit of it is having members that are trained in this.

If this hadn't happened at Okuji Beach where there was heaps of people around, then that would have been a very different scenario.

But if you had more people that are trained and that can help, it means that there's going to be more instances where there are people there with the training to help.

And the second one was when someone from the hospital reached out to me and asked if I could put out a call to donate blood.

And

That was the biggest thing for me as well beyond that is that I had such little optimism purely because of the amount of blood I thought she'd lost that it was the blood donations that saved her as well.

And so, yeah, those were the two biggest things that have happened.

Yeah, I definitely don't want to be a killjoy because the ocean's brought me so much joy.

And I don't think steering away from it is the right option.

It can be such a wonderful place.

I do have a lot of admiration for the people that do go out and swim laps way out to sea on their own because personally, I would be way too scared to do that.

My advice around doing that is try and do it at busy beaches where there's people around that can set off shark alarms or there's power craft in the water that can help and do it in a group.
