So in other words, instead of, as you say, having five or six companies competing for your household bin collection service, you get one company getting the gig there.
You know, you could do it on a regional basis.

The response she got seemed to indicate that the government is getting cold feet on this.

Better outcomes might be achieved by improving the operation of the current system rather than replacing it entirely, which would seem to go against what the government was planning.
And Mary Sherlock has accused, in the Dáil, accused bin companies in this country of creaming profits.
It's very profitable for them, she said, so why would they change it?
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is adamant that the current system is dysfunctional.
Doesn't suit the consumer, doesn't serve the consumer properly and that we should change it.
Now, to be fair and balanced, the Irish Waste Management Association says most people are happy with the system.
They reckon that the price increases are low enough over the last couple of years.
Well, you know, that's their point.
You know, they're making their point because I had to put all this to them.
And they say, look, prices have only risen about 16% since the end of 2020, they say.
But it would seem like, why is every other European country do it differently to us?
Why do we have a particular system which just seems to be very profitable for big companies?
Remember, the people who own Panda, that was sold for 1.3 billion euros, that company.
So something funny going on.
